Glucosamine for Dogs

What is Glucosamine?
Glucosamine is an amino sugar that helps repair cartilage by enhancing the production of prosteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans, which both work in binding water to cartilage tissues.

Can Glucosamine help with my dog’s arthritis?
Basically, Glucosamine improves the smooth functioning of joints, and it strengthens bones by moistening and lubricating a dog’s joints.

Glucosamine dosage for a dog?
There are numerous considerations for choosing glucosamine, including the ingredient types (chloride, sulfate,  or 2KCL), quality, method of delivery (pills or sometimes liquid if your pet does not easily swallow pills), the amount of glucosamine needed on a daily basis, added additional ingredients, and finally, the cost.

A starting dosage for your dog would be 750mg of hydrochloride or sulfate per 50 pounds of weight. 2KCl and NaCl forms of glucosamine are not as effective.
